Art Therapy CPD
Arts Therapists are next due to have their CPD assessed in March 2020 with their registration cycle ending in May 2020. Approximately 2.5% of Arts Therapists will be selected to have their CPD activities audited and this makes it the perfect time to start ensuring that, as an Arts Therapist, your CPD profile is up-to-date. There are lots of activites that you could record as CPD but sometimes people struggle to think of things to include. The chances are that you routinely carry out CPD activities but don't necessarily see them as such. Feedback from HCPC assessors however have pointed out that it is extremely important for HCPC registrants to make a clear distinction between routine work activities and professional development. Whilst you can use work activities towards your CPD quota, this means that you should seek to select activities that focus on how they have improved your knowledge, how they benefit your department and how they have improved the service you offer as a whole rather than selecting activities that represent what you would do on a normal day.
Some excellent examples of Arts Therapy CPD activities might include how you have developed competence in the application and evaluation of relevant facilitation skills or how you have used and improved concepts relating to the triad of art, client, therapist and any ethical issues involved. You might also include records of departmental meetings or mentoring students, being part of a multidisciplinary team and how this has led to you reflecting on your own practice. There are lots of possibilities.
